Ludivina C. Benavides, Individually and on behalf of the Estate of Laura Benavides v. Ford Motor Company, et al. Cause No. DC-01-195 in the 229th Judicial District Court of Duval County, Texas

Partner Jaime A. Saenz assisted in the defense of Ford Motor Company in this single-vehicle rollover case in which two of four vehicle occupants died. Despite evidence that the driver had been drinking and missed a curve, resulting in the rollover, and despite evidence that neither of the ejected occupants had been wearing his or her seatbelt, the jury found no negligence on Plaintiffs, found a defect in the vehicle at issue, and found $225 million in damages. While a Motion for Judgment Notwithstanding the Verdict and a Motion for Remittitur were pending, the case settled for a confidential amount.
