Senior Partner Eduardo Roberto Rodriguez served as co-lead counsel in defense of Ford Motor Company in this Ford Explorer single vehicle on-road rollover case. The accident at issue left a young female plaintiff who had a been a passenger paralyzed after the accident, which took place on a wet highway in the Republic of Mexico. Plaintiffs alleged handling and stability issues, as well as roof crush, and there were disputed issues regarding the seat belts. The jury was selected during the week of August 23, 2004, and evidence began on August 30, 2004. The case went to the jury late in the day on September 24, 2004. After jury deliberations were interrupted for a day due to a juror's sick child and then resumed, the case settled for a confidential amount before such deliberations were concluded, on September 29, 2004. Shortly thereafter, counsel for Ford learned that one of the jurors had a relationship with one of the plaintiff's attorneys; Ford filed a motion to set aside the settlement, which was denied.
