Jaime A. Saenz was one of five counsel representing Ford Motor Company in this two-vehicle collision rollover accident case. Various other members of the family suffered injuries in the accident, but the claims centered around the death of 10 year old Matthew Marroquin. Plaintiffs sued Ford alleging that alleged seat belt spool out and the use of tempered glass in the side windows of the 2000 Expedition involved in the accident was responsible for the fatal injuries incurred by Matthew Marroquin. Trial began on August 29, 2005, and concluded on September 13, 2005. The jury found Ford 90% responsible and the driver who struck the Marroquin vehicle 10% responsible, and awarded the various family member Plaintiffs damages which totaled $22,010,877.00. plus $20,000,000.00 in punitive damages (an amount likely to be reduced by statutory caps on such damages).
